No, a CANSWA (Canadian Support Workers Association) membership is not mandatory for PSWs (Personal Support Workers) on Carelancer. However, we strongly recommend it as a convenient way to meet important requirements, including background checks and insurance coverage.
A CANSWA membership provides key benefits that align with Carelancer’s requirements:
✔ Background Check Included – Membership includes a police background check, which may be useful for your professional records. Please note that ISB verification is still required for all PSWs on Carelancer, regardless of membership.
✔ Insurance Coverage – Members receive Professional Liability Insurance, Errors & Omissions Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and Abuse Coverage, which are all required to work on the platform. As a result, PSWs with active CANSWA membership do not require Carelancer’s internal insurance.
✔ Professional Recognition – Being part of a professional association can enhance credibility and show commitment to industry standards.
If you are not a CANSWA member, you may still join Carelancer if you qualify for Carelancer’s internal insurance, which requires:
At least 1 year of Canadian work experience
A Canadian Certificate of Education issued at least 1 year ago
A completed ISB Premium National Criminal Record Check
