Insurance Requirements

Insurance Requirements

Carelancer provides internal insurance coverage to eligible independent Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs) who meet specific criteria. This insurance protects you while delivering services through the platform.

Note:
Nurses do not require insurance through Carelancer – they are already covered by their provincial regulatory body.
PSWs with HSCPOA membership are not covered by the association’s insurance and must qualify for Carelancer’s internal insurance.
PSWs with active membership in CANSWA or OPSWA are insured through their association and do not receive additional coverage from Carelancer.

Who is eligible for Carelancer’s insurance?

You are eligible for internal insurance only if you meet all three of the following:

  • At least 1 year of Canadian work experience

  • A Canadian Certificate of Education issued at least 1 year ago

  • Successful completion of the ISB Premium National Criminal Record Check

If any of these requirements are not met, you are not eligible for insurance or work through Carelancer.

Who is not covered by Carelancer’s insurance?

  • Nurses – Covered through their regulatory body or employer

  • PSWs with active CANSWA or OPSWA membership – Covered through their association

  • PSWs with only international certificates – Not accepted

  • PSWs with less than 1 year of Canadian experience

  • Providers who have not passed ISB verification

What does Carelancer’s insurance cover?

If eligible, Carelancer’s insurance includes:

  • Professional Liability (Errors & Omissions) – Covers care-related mistakes or omissions

  • General Liability (CGL) – Covers injuries or property damage occurring during service

  • Legal Support – Legal fees and settlements for covered incidents

Is insurance eligibility monitored?

Yes. Insurance eligibility is continuously monitored. Your coverage may be revoked if:

  • Your ISB background check or other requirements expire

  • Your membership (if applicable) becomes invalid

  • Your qualifications change and no longer meet platform criteria
